Jari-jemarinya dengan lincah memetik dawai gitar. Selusin anak merubung, melantunkan suara bersama-sama. Maka lagu ”Pelangi-Pelangi” dalam versi bahasa Inggris pun mengalir riang. Suara mereka lantang melafalkan lirik berbahasa Inggris itu dengan otomatis. Pria inipun larut dalam ’konser’ bersama anak-anak Sekolah Dasar itu, yang dengan antusias belajar Bahasa Inggris sambil bernyanyi.
Suasana belajar pun jadi asyik sekali. Ya, konsep belajar Bahasa Inggris dengan bernyanyi adalah salah satu terobosan yang coba dilakukan Haris di lembaga kursus yang dikembangkannya di Banjarmasin sejak beberapa tahun terakhir ini. Tak kurang 800 anak Sekolah Dasar bergabung di lembaga yang dia kembangkan di Banjarmasin dan Surakarta, Jawa Tengah.

Kebetulan, duta pertukaran pelajar ke New York, Amerika Serikat, ini lumayan mahir bermain sejumlah alat musik. Saat di New York itu, ia sempat memenangkan kejuaraan Art & Music Festival yang diselenggarakan Women’s Club di sana.
Ia juga mengajar musik secara privat. Scott Bunt, seorang koleganya di New York, belajar gitar kepada Haris dari mulai tingkat dasar sampai menjadi piawai. ”Kami masih saling kontak sampai sekarang, Scott ternyata sudah menjadi pemain musik handal. Sekarang ia pemilik band yang sudah punya nama di Amerika,” kata Haris yang kini juga mendirikan dan mengelola web designing.

Lewat kepiawaiannya menguasai alat musik, pria kelahiran Banjarmasin ini, juga menciptakan ratusan lagu anak berbahasa Inggris. Sekitar 20 lagu di antaranya sudah direkam dan diedarkan di lingkungan pendidikan sekolah dasar di Indonesia. Secara khusus, Haris telah melatih 400-an guru untuk mengajar anak-anak Bahasa Inggris dengan metode bermain dan menyanyikan lagu-lagu yang diciptakannya. Materi lagu-lagu tersebut terangkum dalam buku teks materi pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk anak yang dia tulis dan digunakan secara luas di lingkungan pendidikan dasar. Pelatihan ini diselenggarakan di Jakarta dan Surabaya.
”Materi lagu-lagu sangat disenangi anak-anak. Ini memudahkan mereka menghafalkan kosa kata selain menghindarkan mereka dari kebosanan,” kata pria yang sangat dekat dengan anak ini.

Selain lewat lagu, Haris juga mengenalkan teknik belajar bahasa Inggris dengan bermain peran (drama) dan menciptakan ratusan permainan (games). Ia juga telah menyiapkan kamus tiga bahasa (Inggris-Arab-Indonesia) dan (Inggris-Mandarin-Indonesia) yang dikemas menjadi kamus personal bagi anak. Kamus ini berupa gambar-gambar menarik, yang sangat diminati anak dalam belajar berbagai bahasa.
Kegemarannya menciptakan penemuan baru dalam pendidikan anak ini tumbuh dari pengalamannya melanglang buana di sejumlah negara dan menekuni berbagai profesi, mulai dari jurnalis, staf kedutaan besar dan konsultan dan pendidik di institusi-institusi ternama.
Haris Fadhillah Syarif, putra dari ayah seorang perwira TNI-AD dan ibu seorang guru ini semenjak duduk di bangku SD sudah menyukai pelajaran bahasa Inggris dengan cara belajar sendiri.
Ketika masih sekolah di SMA Negeri 1 Banjarmasin, ia mendapat kesempatan memperdalam bahasa Inggris setelah mendapat beasiswa belajar di New York, Amerika selama setahun. Jurusan yang dipilihnya adalah komunikasi.
Sepulang dari Amerika, ia melanjutkan kuliah di Banjarmasin sambil mengajar bahasa Inggris, baik di sekolah maupun privat. Masa perkuliahan hanya dijalaninya sebentar. Setelah itu, Haris menjadi wartawan harian berbahasa Inggris The Jakarta Post. Tak lama kemudian, ia mendapatkan kesempatan bekerja sebagai staf penerangan di KBRI Brunei Darussalam. Sambil bekerja, Haris juga memberikan pelajaran bahasa Inggris untuk anak-anak diplomat di sana.
Ketekunannya mempelajari budaya dan bahasa juga mengantarkan Haris melakukan perjalanan spiritual selama delapan bulan pada 1985. Sejumlah negara yang dia kunjungi adalah India, Bangladesh, Thailand dan Malaysia.
Kembali ke tanah air, Haris menjadi staf public relations di Kedubes Australia, Jakarta.
Karirnya berlanjut di LP3I Pusat di Jakarta. Di lembaga pendidikan ini, ia dipercaya menjadi Asisten Direktur Pendidikan. Selama di sini, Haris menciptakan program belajar bahasa Inggris bernama English at Lunch bagi kalangan direksi dan eksekutif.

Berikutnya, Haris Fadhilah berkiprah di sekolah internasional milik pengusaha terkemuka Sudwikatmono, Bakti Mulia 400 Jakarta. Selama dua tahun, dia dipercaya mengelola Divisi Teknologi Informasi di sekolah yang memiliki 2.000 lebih siswa itu.
Sekarang, selain menekuni bisnis web designing, Haris tetap tekun mengembangkan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris untuk segala usia, baik children class maupun executive class dengan teknik-teknik terobosan yang ia ciptakan sendiri, termasuk mendirikan GLOBAL ENGLISH CLUB, program kursus Bahasa Inggris melalui aplikasi WhatsApp. Alhamdulillah, cara pembelajarannya diterima dengan sangat antusias oleh berbagai kalangan karena terbukti membuat mereka cepat menguasai komunikasi bahasa internasional ini.
